Cincinnati Museum of Art ranked among top 10 free museums in America, according to readers of USA Today

“Top 10,USA todayThe Travel Information Center, which frequently relies on reader feedback, has rated the Cincinnati Art Museum (CAM) among the best in the nation. Top 10 free museums. Readers voted for CAM and other nominees earlier this month after a panel of judges selected the initial list of nominees.

CAM edged out the Baltimore Museum of Art and the Smithsonian Institution, among others, for fourth place on USA todaythe list. The National Infantry Museum & Soldier Center in Columbus, Georgia was No. 1.

The CAM ranking comes after the museum was also considered a finalist for the 2021 Institute of Museum and Library Services Medal, according to a press release. The museum has also exceeded a number of categories in CityBeat‘s own “Best of Cincinnati 2021” issue, including as the #1 Art Museum, #1 for Arts & Crafts Classes, #1 & 2 Museum Exhibits, Gift Shop #1 and Podcast #2.

CAM opened in 1886, making it the oldest art museum west of the Allegheny Mountains, according to the CAM website. The museum now has more than 67,000 objects dating from more than 6,000 years ago.

Cincinnati has received a number of honors from USA today‘s “10 Best” recently; Smale Riverfront Park was named among the the best river walks in the countrywhile Fountain Square is listed as a top of the public square.
