Grand Opening of Hyatt Centric Downtown SacramentoThe Hyatt Centric Downtown Sacramento on 7th and L, celebrated its grand opening on December 9, 2021! Chief Executive Paul Resch and Presidio Partner Guneet Bajwa hosted Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Executive Director of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, and Kimo Bertram of Hyatt Hotels Corporation to participate in a ribbon cutting in the lobby of the ‘hotel. Guests sampled light snacks created by the hotel’s chef, Ravin Patel, and enjoyed samples of the cocktail program offered at the hotel’s restaurant, 7thStreet Standard, and rooftop lounge, Clayton Club. Guests also got a chance to see Hyatt Centric’s guest rooms and banquet hall, Baby Grand. Harley White Jr. Orchestra provided jazz music reminiscent of the heyday of the historic Marshall Hotel (and Clayton Hotel) that once welcomed guests to the same location. Clayton had operated the Pacific Water Care and Health Institute at nearby 7th and L streets. The Clayton Hotel was sold in 1939 and renamed “Hotel Marshall” in honor of James Wilson Marshall (1810-1885), the man who discovered gold at Sutter’s Mill on the American River on 24/ 01/1848.

Fundraising for the ME-ONE FoundationMe-One Foundation, a live and virtual fundraiser, took place on December 2 at the Foothills Bowl in Auburn. A taste of the Foothills with Bowling, Dinner, Wine and Freddie Silveria from FSauctions. One goal: to provide adult cancer patients and their loved ones with a relaxing and enjoyable three-day family cancer retreat. This carefree and free retreat, Camp Wieser, offers families time for quiet reflection, pampering and fun, a much-needed vacation away from the whirlwind of doctor’s appointments, paperwork and treatments.

Celebrating the 45th BIA Building Industry AwardsThe BIA “MAME” Building Industry Awards Dinner celebrated the 45th year of the awards, Nov. 18 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in downtown Sacramento, with the theme “Academy Awards” honoring the industry building homes for the Sacramento area. Sacramento Children’s Home Crisis Nursery LUXURY FOR LIFE FundraiserSacramento Children’s Home Crisis Nursery LUXE FOR LIFE Dinner and Fundraiser was held at the California Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento on November 13, 2021. The Sacramento Children’s Home operates the only crisis nursery in the county. The mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by supporting families in times of crisis. The Sacramento Crisis Nursery is a family-strengthening program, where parents can bring their children ages 0-5 to one of Sacramento’s two childcare centers for emergency child care or overnight care during difficult times.

I was in awe of all the fun exhibits, drama, and educational information for adults and children of all ages. A must see on your bucket list. More information.

The Sacramento Chapter is known for hosting special events such as the annual Development Forum, which showcases current and future regional development projects, the quarterly Hard Hat Tours, which showcase new projects and host guest speakers. The chapter offers educational workshops and seminars and remains involved in government affairs at the local and state levels.

Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce Connecting the Dots ForumOn October 14, the SBCC welcomed over 100 women (and a few men!) to its first annual event, Connecting the Dots: A Women’s Forum at the Hilton Hotel. Five speakers from all walks of life inspired and captivated all in attendance, and the Chamber presented awards to Dr. Kawanaa Carter and Wanda Abney.
