BTS’s RM enjoys visiting art galleries and museums
The ARMY fandom of BTS often uses the verb “Namjooning” to describe when they feel like rapper BTS. Typically, “Namjooning” is used to refer to nature, museums, and exploration.
Talk with vogue koreaRM shared that he developed a love for visiting museums while touring with the members of BTS.
The rapper told Vogue Korea:
“When we went abroad, we stayed in our hotel rooms except when we were working… The only places I could go were museums then. Art galleries full of Monet or van Gogh were always crowded, but when I visited them on a weekday morning and had them all to myself, I had a eureka moment – an artist who died ago hundred years was communicating directly with a boy from Korea. I was so envious. From then on, I started researching and learning about Korean painters. I’m the type of person who dives in whenever I’m intrigued by something. These days I’m fascinated by art, and it’s exhilarating.

BTS rapper says ‘time seems to stand still’ in art galleries
In his interview with Vogue Korea, RM went into more detail about why he enjoys art so much, especially when comparing it to music.
“I think the fact that painting is a totally different field makes it more enjoyable… When it comes to painting, I can be honest about my emotions. When it comes to music, it’s hard if you get jealous because there are so many great musicians and new talent,” RM said.
The BTS rapper also shared that he’s able to “think things through” whenever he looks at art, and he admitted that he hopes to have a painter’s kind of career.
“Furthermore, painters have very long careers. Some hold their first solo exhibition at age 40, and some do not sell a single painting until age 60. But I debuted at 19, and I’m told I’m representing my country now at 27, and people ask me what I’m going to do next,” RM told Vogue Korea.
He continued. “It’s like I’ve transcended to where I’m supposed to be at this point in my life. That’s why I want to have the longevity of painters. When I visit an art gallery, time seems to stand still and I can reflect on myself.

What is RM’s dream?
Besides wanting the kind of “longevity” of a painter, RM also has an idea of the kind of life he wants to achieve.
“I want to be recognized as someone other than a member of BTS, and I want to create other kinds of art…I have many dreams, including living in a quiet countryside, where I can read and study. I’m very happy now, but I find the pace of life quite overwhelming. I want to find the right rhythm for me one day,” RM told Vogue Korea.
