The Arnot Museum of Art hosts its first seasonal fundraising evening
ELMIRA, NY (WETM) — Guests at the Arnot Art Museum spent an afternoon on the lawn of one of Elmira’s most historic buildings to raise money for a worthy cause.
More than 100 guests packed into tents on the lawn at 315 W. Washington Ave. as the rain poured down, but the cocktails spilled out.
The party was designed to raise funds for Arnot’s art museum restoration project, The Four Columns Project. The project aims to raise funds for the restoration of the front columns of the building which have been in their original state for 180 years.
The theme for Sunday’s party was Mad Hatter’s Spring Cocktails in a historic Victorian. Those who purchased a ticket showcased their lavish clothing and unique hats as a way to stay with the theme and immerse themselves in the atmosphere.
Guests chatted among themselves and took time to enjoy their afternoon with appropriately themed decoration and appetizers.
It was the first party of the year with three more to go. Parties are held in each of the four seasons, with the next being titled Summer Lawn Whites. This party will take place on September 11 and will be themed around the summer atmosphere where everyone is encouraged to wear all-white attire.
The locations for each party were chosen to be hosted by one of the museum trustees who were chosen by a committee.
“It’s nice to have a full crowd,” said Clare Van Den Blink, host of the first fundraiser night. “We have a lot of our friends and family here and a lot of new friends too,” she added.
After the summer party comes the fall event, themed The Great Gatsby Bash, this party will be a jazz age party and will take place on October 30th. The event is expected to be very formal and will run from 6-8 p.m.
The last party of the year will take place on December 18 and will be called an après-ski afternoon. Focused on the winter season, they plan to have ice sculptures and other winter-themed decorations while asking guests to put on their best ski gear.
